Alpine Shop is located near the best backcountry skiing and riding in Vermont and New England. We are 30 minutes from the spine of the Green Mountains and Vermont's Highest Peak, Mt. Mansfield. The area's predominant weather from the west grabs moisture over Lake Champlain, rises and cools, resulting in frequent "upsloping" snow storms. These somewhat 'regular' snowfalls stack up over days with snow totals rivaling the 'named' weather events in the Northeast. These can sometimes dump unbelievable amounts of 'Champlain Pow' on the peaks around 3000' or higher. When it's good around here, turn for turn , it's as good as anywhere. Unlike resort skiing, the backcountry terrain in Vermont often doesn't see tracks, or get affected by wind and temperature, leaving sublime untracked powder for days.
